My story
I am Dr. Yoan Michel Mboussou, a Gabonese microbiologist who has been committed since the beginning of my career to a medicine that is modern, accessible, and rooted in local realities. My career is structured around three pillars: science, nature, and humanity.
Specializing in medical analysis and ophthalmic imaging, I am an expert in OCT (optical coherence tomography) , a cutting-edge technology for retinal diagnosis. I also run Medivision, a consultation and imaging center, as well as an optical store, where I work on integrating artificial intelligence into vision screening protocols. I strongly believe in the role of AI in improving diagnosis and prevention, especially in under-medicalized areas.
Alongside my medical career, my scientific curiosity led me to study therapeutic alternatives, particularly Gabonese equatorial medicinal plants and world medicines. It is in this context that I launched the Mayay brand, the first Gabonese range of therapeutic capsules and chocolates based on iboga , with a pioneering marketing authorization in the country. This project aims to position iboga as a natural well-being solution, while creating a fair and sustainable value chain.
My commitment to sustainable development is reflected in the NGO Gabon Terre d'Avenir, which I chair, and the Ndossi Village project, a pilot ecovillage located at the entrance to Akanda National Park. This experimental site combines traditional healthcare, ecotourism, vocational training, and community governance to offer an alternative model for a sustainable, harmonious, and resilient society.
Outside of medicine, I am passionate about piano and rhythmic repetitive music, which I consider a form of language of the soul. This musical passion, linked to meditation and repetition, inspires me in both my research and my therapeutic practice.
Today, my work connects medical science, botanical knowledge, artificial intelligence and culture, in a single quest: that of a healthier, fairer future, more rooted in the wisdom of peoples.
