This Tuesday, we launched a critical operation to clean the mangroves along the Tsini River, which borders the picturesque Ndossi Village. Our efforts target a major scourge: plastic waste, particularly alarming in Libreville, where 500 tons of waste are produced daily, including 85 tons of plastic. This translates to approximately 0.98 kg of plastic waste generated every second.

Aboard our trusty canoe, Mayaya, powered by a robust 150HP engine, our dedicated team of five—Mr. Patrick, our expert pilot, along with Tsumi, Redzombe, Mbela, and myself—set out on a mission. Our goal: to mitigate the devastating impact of plastic waste on the fragile mangrove ecosystem and reduce health risks, especially for the fish that ultimately end up on our plates.

The threat these wastes pose to our environment and health cannot be overstated. The ecological impact runs as deep as the roots of the mangroves we are striving to protect. This is a race against time to safeguard the biodiversity of this unique region.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners—UNDP, the Global Environment Facility, DGEPN, and the SGP program—for their unwavering support in this environmental battle.
Together, we can make a difference. Join us in this fight for a greener, cleaner future.
