Today, I am thrilled to share exciting news: the launch of the project "Management and Recycling of Plastic Waste on the River in Mondah Bay within Akanda National Park." This initiative, led by Gabon Terre d’Avenir and funded by the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF/SGP), aims to sustainably transform our approach to ecology and waste management in Gabon.
Since September 2023, we have embarked on this 24-month journey to create a positive environmental impact in Mondah Bay. Our ambitious yet achievable goals include:
Training 150 villagers in project management,
Collecting 800 kg of plastic waste,
Transforming the waste into 10,000 recycled pavers for developing three tourist sites within the project area.
This project is more than just a recycling exercise. It represents a paradigm shift in our relationship with nature, where every action contributes to preserving the beauty and diversity of our environment. Through the training of villagers, we aim not only to clean the bay but also to equip the local community with the skills necessary to sustain these ecological practices.
We firmly believe in the importance of collective action. This project would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and execution by UNOPS. Their commitment to environmental and sustainable development causes serves as an inspiring model for us all.
We invite you to follow our progress on this project. Each month, we will share updates, success stories, and key moments from this ecological journey. Your support and encouragement will be our greatest strength.
Together, let’s take another step toward a cleaner and more sustainable Gabon.
Thank you for joining us in this exciting adventure.
