The NGO Gabon Terre d’Avenir (GTA) continues its efforts toward a greener and more sustainable Gabon. On January 10th, we organized a major cleanup day in the La Cambuse neighborhood along the banks of the Tsini River. This initiative is part of our plastic recycling project, a bold program supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the Global Environment Facility.
The Tsini River: A Natural Gem Under Threat

The Tsini River is a vital ecosystem for local biodiversity and the communities living nearby. Unfortunately, it is now facing a growing threat: plastic pollution. Waste accumulating along its banks not only harms the ecosystem but also endangers fishing activities and water resources.
To address this issue, GTA organized this cleanup day with the goal of raising awareness among residents and restoring the beauty of this iconic site.
Zero Trash: A Slogan That Inspires Action
Our project is driven by a simple yet powerful idea: “Zero Trash.” This slogan reflects our commitment to combating plastic pollution while encouraging communities to adopt environmentally responsible behaviors.
During the event, dozens of volunteers, neighborhood youth, and GTA members came together to collect tons of plastic waste. This collective effort not only cleared the riverbanks but also sent a strong message: protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility.
Recycling at the Heart of Our Actions
The cleanup is only the first step of our project. The collected plastics won’t end up in a landfill; they will be sorted and integrated into an innovative recycling program. The goal is to transform this waste into useful resources, such as recycled plastic items that can be reused by the community.
Thanks to the support of the UNDP and funding from the Global Environment Facility, GTA is actively working to establish a local recycling sector that generates economic value while reducing the environmental impact of waste.

An Impact Beyond the Environment
This project goes beyond the fight against pollution. It also aims to:
Raise awareness among local populations: Educational workshops were held alongside the event to explain the dangers of plastic and promote eco-friendly alternatives.
Create green jobs: Through recycling and related activities, we aim to develop a sustainable economy in the affected areas.
Strengthen communities: These mobilization events foster social bonds and inspire residents to become the first protectors of their environment.
A Message of Hope for the Future
The cleanup day in La Cambuse is an important milestone in our fight for a cleaner Gabon. By working together, we can not only preserve our ecosystems but also build a green economy that benefits everyone.
At GTA, we believe that every action counts. Whether it’s picking up litter, raising awareness, or participating in our initiatives, everyone has a role to play in protecting our planet.
Join us in this fight for a sustainable Gabon, and say it loud with us: “Zero Trash!”
